A feasibility study and Master Plan for the Bobcat Stadium expansion were completed by Broaddus and Associates in the summer 2008. The study evaluated the feasibility, alternatives, phasing, and estimated costs of enhancement alternatives for Bobcat Stadium to meet current needs and address the requirements of a future NCAA Division 1-A level football program. Upon approval by the University of the Master Plan, development work on the West Expansion was approved and initiated. The finalized scope of West Expansion Project provides for a total of 268 new premium seats in 15 suites and 436 premium club seats in a two level structure erected above the current stadium Press Box. The project will also include upgrading required supporting infrastructure. The construction “window” on the stadium is limited to nine months of off-season from December through August. The Bobcat Stadium - West Expansion design documents and project budget estimate were approved by the Board at the November 2008 meeting. An immediate budget increase approval was requested and received at a December BOR meeting. After receipt of an NTP, construction began in January 2009.
Status: Construction was substantially complete in time for a grand opening ceremony held on September 5, 2009 followed by the first game of the season. The overall project is 97% complete, pending final resolution of punch-list and accounting issues.
