The Fall 2007 Utilization of Instructional Space report examines the scheduled use of the primary teaching facilities at Texas State University-San Marcos. Analyzing a room’s utilization rate will help determine if it’s being scheduled for classes or labs to its maximum potential from a time management viewpoint. Weekly instructor-to-student contact hours are totaled for each specifically designated classroom and class lab identified in the University’s facilities inventory, using methodology established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). In addition, Student Station Occupancy rates (SSO) are calculated for each classroom and class lab to help determine if a room is being used to its maximum potential from a seating capacity perspective. This report provides a room by room investigation of the course section data used by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) to ascertain the university’s overall utilization rates.
