Student Worker Safety

In the Fall of 2007, the Environmental Health, Safety & Risk Management Office officially launched the “Student Worker Safety Training” program. The program was created to provide safety awareness to Student Workers of potential hazards that they might encounter on campus thus reducing the number of injuries and claims reported by student workers.  It is estimated that Texas State employs approximately 3,000 Student Workers each year.

The “Student Worker Safety Training” is mandatory and must be completed within 30 days from the date of hire or your student worker will not be allowed to continue employment with Texas State. The training only has to be completed once during employment at Texas State.  The requirement is applicable to all student workers, graduate assistants, interns or work study students regardless of the department or position they are filling.

Student worker safety is now completely done using TRACS. See the instructions in the following paragraph.

TRACS

Responsible Department

A designated Contact Person should contact the EHS& RM office and provide us with the following information:

  • Responsible department
  • Contact Person Name, Net ID, and phone number
  • Student Worker's Name, TxState Net ID, and Start Date

The contact person may use the link "New Student TRACS Access Request" in the upper left hand corner of this page to provide us the required information so that we may grant the student worker access to the TRACS training.  The form can hold up to ten student worker names and Net ID's.

The student will receive an email notification from TRACS once they have been granted access.

*** More details are available in the "Announcements" section of the "Student Worker Sfty" TRACS site. ***
